Where are we now?
In 2018 we hope to have the biggest displays we can with the overlaying tone of respect for why the displays are being made and shown. Our initial aim was to have 111,111 poppies in the town on the 11th November 2018 marking the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. Sadly, we don’t think we will attain that amount of poppies, but we are still striving to reach that target. That said we think that what we have achieved as a community is wonderful and has given a lot of people pleasure in working together with others as a contribution based community project.
We have also opened up The Poppy Project internationally and will be looking for handcrafted poppies to be sent to us from all over the world for inclusion in our displays. We already have ones from Canada, Chile, Holland and the Menin Gate. We also regularly receive poppies from Grantham, Blyth and Newcastle.
The displays this year will peak at Coldstream War Memorial during the two minute silence on the 11th November and end with the Candlelight Armistice through the town.
