What is The Poppy Project 2014 - 2018 by Honour Our Troops?

Started in 2009 as an idea, by Honour Our Troops Trustee Annemarie McCall, to make and display an art installation of handcrafted poppies in the Coldstream Memorial Gardens each year from 2014 to 2018, as an educational tool for all ages to mark the Centenary years of World War One. It was to cover the 5 years of the war and the inspiration was, that as the years passed more and more men fell, hence the title ‘The Falling Poppies’. The aim was to create a visual experience which in years to come would be recalled by those who walked through it and so become part of the collective memory.
In addition to this it was hoped that others would wish to join in and the potential for it to become a contributionist community project would be realised.
