Honour Our Troops, or HOT for short, maintains our remit and objectives and we do it with honour and very often with no fanfare. Many of our supporters do not wish to be identified and quietly go about raising funds and supporting Honour Our Troops in many different ways.
Our motto is ‘For Troops who risk their lives to keep ours safe, past, present and future’
You will sometimes see all of our motto and sometimes see part of it, depending on what we are doing.
REMIT & OBJECTIVES
Our remit is:
• Assist serving and former serving members of the armed forces of the Crown and their dependents by providing relief from hardship, sickness, distress and bereavement in particular, but not exclusively by making grants to other charities established for similar purposes; and
• The promotion of military efficiency of the armed forces of the Crown by raising their morale and spirits in particular, but not exclusively, by organising public events in honour and for the benefit of serving members and in memory of those who have died or been injured in armed conflict.
• To advance the education of young people who are members of cadet organisations affiliated to the armed forces of the Crown by making charitable grants to those organisations to enable them to develop educational and training programs for cadets.
We have been called the most comprehensive military charity, as we cover so much.
ACHIEVING OUR OBJECTIVES
We fundraise in a number of ways and then grant out the monies raised to projects around the country in line with our remit.
We Marshal Parades, Marches and events, so as to take the burden off our Police Forces and aid other military charities in being able to show rememberance, commemoration and support.
We send out Welfare Parcels to serving UK Troops.
We aid other charities in raising funds and awareness and make grants from between £50 and £1,000 to specific projects. We cannot grant funding to charities for the purpose of day-to-day administration.
We stage our own events for civilians and UK Troops predominantly, but not exclusively, through music to help raise awareness, funds and morale.
Everyone at Honour Our Troops is a volunteer, there are NO paid staff. At times this means that we ask for people to be a little patient as we dedicate hours from our own lives to running HOT and events. Everything from the background work and administration to the events you see being run throughout the country are all done by volunteers and supporters. Our volunteers come from differing backgrounds and each and every one has a talent for something. Some of our volunteers are former military personnel, but in the main we are civilians, some with a military connection and others with no military connection at all who just want to support our Forces.
We encourage all ages to take part in HOT Events. We also encourage our supporters to set up their own events and run them. Whether that be a physical challenge, music event or simply keeping a watchful eye on our many War Memorials around the country. Each and every supporter brings something valuable to Honour Our Troops and the most important asset they bring is a willingness to show their support. We cherish all our volunteers and supporters and appreciate how many unsung voluntary hours they put into Honour Our Troops.
Just to make this clear - Honour Our Troops does not support war. We support the Troops who sign their lives to us and the fact that everyone has a right to their own opinions. Honour Our Troops is non-political, to the point where, because we have not worked with politicians to further our aims, we found it to be detrimental to us at times. However, we feel this is the correct manner in which to do things - quietly, with little fuss and with honour and dignity to help those who we can help.
